2. Try Another Network
Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data. If the site loads on mobile, your home network or DNS is the problem.
3. Check the Status Page
Most major services (Google, GitHub, Cloudflare) publish a public status page that confirms outages.
4. Use a Different DNS
Switch your DNS to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8. If the site loads, your default DNS resolver is the issue.
If The Site Is Really Down
- Wait 5–15 minutes — most outages resolve quickly
- Check social media for the company's announcement
- Use a cached version via Google or the Wayback Machine
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the website down for everyone or just me?+
Run a multi-location status check. If all test nodes fail, the server is offline. If only your location fails, the problem is your network, DNS, or ISP.
Why can I access some websites but not others?+
This usually points to a DNS issue, a blocked domain at your ISP, or a CDN node failure in your region. Try flushing your DNS cache or switching resolvers.
How long should I wait before assuming a site is permanently down?+
Wait at least 30 minutes for consumer sites and a few hours for smaller hosts. Check the domain's expiry with WHOIS to rule out an abandoned domain.
Can a website be down in one country but up in another?+
Yes — geo-blocking, CDN failures, or government-level filtering can make a site accessible in some regions and unreachable in others.
